Student Projects Recognized at PacificVis 2026 Storytelling Contest

Three student projects developed from the SM6351 Information Visualization course were shortlisted for the Visual Data Storytelling Contest at PacificVis 2026. The projects are featured on the official contest website.

The shortlisted projects include “Hidden Information Behind Fancy Words: A Comparative Data-Driven Analysis of ESG Reports” by Weiqi Han, Yupu Chen, Yunzhong Luo, and Xiaoyu Zhang; “A Cat’s Day” by Aoshuang Zhang, Wenxuan Gu, Yu Zhong, Jinghong Lin, and Xiaoyu Zhang; and “Twin City Tales: Lives Across the Shenzhen–Hong Kong Border” by Mingxi Li, Lu Junchi, and Yiwei Zhou.

Two teams presented their work on-site in Sydney, while one team presented virtually. Among the entries, “Hidden Information Behind Fancy Words: A Comparative Data-Driven Analysis of ESG Reports” received an Honorable Mention, placing among the top entries in the competition.

The projects were originally developed as course work and later refined for submission to the contest, highlighting the quality of student research and design in information visualization.
